Q: My father has been experiencing frequent bladder infection, he has had three within the last 5 month

the last one was about two weeks ago. The dorctor placed him on antibiotics for approx. 1 week where his symptoms of fever, chills and generally feeling weak and dizzy lasted for three full days where he actually stayed in bed.  I understand that he is not circumsized and he is 77 years of age with no real health problems other than this-what do you recomend?

Bladder infections are uncomfortable at their mildest, and downright dangerous at their worst. Often recurrent infections can build up an immunity against some antibiotics, so your father may need to experiment with trying some different antibiotics until he finds one to which the infection responds. Also, I personally have never had much luck with the newer antibiotics that you take for a shorter span of time. I always request one of the older versions that you take for a couple of weeks.

Once he seems to knock-out the infection, he may want to take cranberry supplements or drink cranberry juice to help keep future infections at bay.
