Four Steps for Gaining Control of Your Bladder

Retraining your bladder could help you urinate less and reduce the urge to urinate.

Pass urine less frequently and reduce the sudden urge to pass urine by retraining your bladder.

Follow these steps:

  • Keep a record for a week of how often you pass urine.
  • If you pass urine every hour and a half, keep to this schedule, even if you don’t have to go.
  • When you find you’re not leaking on this schedule, add another 15 minutes between visits.
  • Continue to increase the time between bathroom visits by 15 minute intervals until you are passing urine every three to four hours without leaking.
