MRI contrast agent linked to fatal kidney disease

A newly identified kidney disease has been linked to exposure to the contrast agent gadolinium during MRI scans, U.S. researchers report. The disease, called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, increases the risk of death in patients undergoing treatment for kidney disease. A U.S. Public Health Advisory is urging caution in the use of MRI scans for kidney disease patients and prompt dialysis for those who've had MRI scans involving the contrast agent. Read more »
