I agree with the study that night sweats interfere with your sleep. I have been told that people need less sleep as they age. When you wake up in the middle of the night and cannot get back to sleep within 20 minutes, you should get up and do something. It can help make you tired again so you can try to go back to sleep.
My sleep deprivation was from throwing off the covers while I was asleep then waking up freezing from the wet clothes, pillow, hair, etc. This would happen several times a night. Black cohosh extract (not the leaves because you don't know what you are getting) worked great for me. Taken regularly, my hot flashes and night sweats were kept to a minimum.
