Lots of good reasons but I believe the main reason older women gain weight and lose strength is because they stop exercising vigorously. Most believe they are too old for a heart-pounding workout, and many fear injury or inclement weather. I know ... I'm one of them. But I've finally been able to lose a few pounds - and hopefully will lose more - by increasing the regularity and most important INTENSITY of my workouts. It takes many more hours and a lot more effort now than it did 10 years ago, and yes, I do experience injury. But you work through the pain, carefully, and eventually your body begins to adjust to the new routine. I watch the 75-year-old at my Adventure Boot Camp and I know I'm only halfway where I want to be! So move it, ladies, as often as you can.
