When to Call the Doctor About Menopause Symptoms

By Toni Hurst, Health Guide Tuesday, October 21, 2008
Although menopause is a natural part of what I like to call "growing up" (I hate to use the word "aging"), it can be accompanied by medical problems that are anything but natural. Hot flashes are annoying as heck, but they won't kill you. Heart disease can.   I hear from a lot of you asking, "...

The problem with "seeing a doctor" about real health issues that are caused by menopause is that no doctor in this country cares about women who are in menopause.  Menopause will cause rapid obesity, which in turn will cause high blood cholesterol and high blood sugar. If you have these conditions and you are 20 years old and weigh 90 pounds, a doctor will most probably treat you for these conditions.  However, if you are 50 weight 140 pounds and you are menopausal or post menopausal, you will be told that this is just the way it is.  Menopause can kill you.  For two reasons....one, it can cause conditions that are life threatening, and two, doctors do not believe that menopausal women are worth treating.  Once you enter menopause and develop serious medical conditions as a result, you are on your own.  If you start to gain weight in menopause, stop eating.  Anything, including ice, will make you continue to gain weight.  The doctors will do nothing to help you.  If your cholesterol and blood sugar go to dangerous levels, search for supplements that may help to take these levels down.  No doctor will give you a prescription because you are menopausal and not worth it.  Any medical conditions that you develop as a result of menopause, you best get on your computer and research how to treat yourself.  If you are not able to do this, your conditions will continure to worsen and you may die.  Actual "medical" treatment for women who have entered menopause and have life threatening conditons as a result, will not be offered.  After all, "you're just menopausal", you don't "really" need medical like "normal" people.  You are no longer a memeber of the "normal" population and the medical field will take ever opportunity to remind you of that.  Learn how to help yourself because the medical field it done with you once you reach menopause.  Good luck.
