Q: I also have hives in addition to the 9 most prominent symptoms of menopause

I have chronic hives in addition to the other 9 most prominent sypmtoms of menopause.  Three years ago I had an ablasion procedure done.  Since that time, I have had hives on and off but for the last one year - hives --- everyday and the other symptoms of menopause.

Are you on hormones, dsd?  If you are not, I cannot imagine what connection there could be between menopause and your hives.  If you are on any hormone preparations, you could be reacting to those.  I'm sorry i can't be more helpful, but I think dermatology, not gynecology, is where you will find the answer.

In my case, menopause (perimenopause, actually) was responsible for my hives!  I started progesterone treatment, and hives were completely gone in a week.

Here's a HealthCentral discussion on the subject.

I wonder what other symptoms you are having specifically, because it could be a result of hormonal imbalance. My daughter gets a rash right before her perod and my niece gets hives from time to time before her periods, I got them as well after starting my perod. It actually could be too much progesterone as opposed to estrogen levels...especially if you're also having dizziness, lethargy, etc. Reply
