I'm 46 with periomenopausal symptoms, what can I do to feel better? Is Prozac the answer?

At 46 years old, I had an endometrial ablation and D/C for uterine fibroids in January 2008. I have not had a period since. I have many symptoms of periomenopause (hot flashes, insomnia, fuzzy memory, etc.). After visiting with my GYN today, he recommended that I be put on 20mg. Prozac. My mother, grandmother, and sister had hysterectomies at an early age.  I've had no problems with abnormal pap, etc. until my fibroids last year. I need to feel better. What should I do?

There are natural antidepressants out there.I have been on Prozac for anxiety and always felt like I was going to jump out of the car. Not a good feeling. In my opinion dr. are to ready to push pills when there are alternatives out there. You think your memory is fuzzy now wait tell you get on Prozac. Then enjoy trying to go off of them.A pill like that in order to work has to stay at a theraputic level it is not PRN.There are also natural pills for insomnia.Try cutting down on caffiene if that is a concern.

Have you tried any natural antidepressants or insomnia supplements?  If so, do you have the names?  and if so, did they help?  Thank you.

Watch this video about menopause and menstruation, a normal, natural shedding process of the uterine lining that occurs monthly in all healthy adult women after puberty.
