Q: Can I take Estradiol by itself without Prometrium?

It is not advisable to take estrogen without progesterone (Prometrium).  Estrogen stimulates the growth of the uterine lining and progesterone triggers the shedding of that lining.  If you do not "oppose" the estrogen with progesterone, the lining can get thick (endometrial hyperplasia) and there is a risk of endometrial cancer resulting.

In addition, if you are having symptoms which include mood or sleep issues, it is the progesterone that helps alleviates these.
