Hot flashes started before I knew what they were probably around 52. Night sweats not a big deal, pretty much over with. Mood swings, swing 1 way, nasty. Have heart condition so cant do hormones. Have thyroid condition and have gained over 30 lbs in 5 yrs and am now on meds.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but some women never get over hot flashes and poor quality sleep. Both are related at least in significant part to the hormone changes of menopause...lower levels of progesterone (sleep) and estrogen (hot flashes). Some women find the over the counter remedies, such as black cohosh 40-80mg and progesterone cream helpful. Some herbal formulas can also help with sleep, like GABA, chamomile and Valerian. The most definite help is bioidentical hormones which have to be prescribed by a health provider. Please see my previous postings on bioidentical hormones and on insomnia.
