Q: MENOPAUSE PROPER OR NOT???

I am early 53 and haven't had a period since I went off the low dose pill until now and it is a very heavy period like the ones used to have when I first started them. I want to have unprotected sex so do I still have a chance of falling pregnant? I do not want to risk this. THX

Hi Meme,

You don't say how long you have been off the contraceptive pill and that does influence my answer.  If you have been without periods for a year, you can be reassured you are postmenopausal and infertile.  Any less time than that, you would need to have lab work done to determine fertility if you want to be absolutely sure you won't get pregnant.  At 53, it is unlikely, but not never.

Good lluck to you,
