Q: Is flaxseed useful in reducing hot flashes?

Have any studies been done regarding this since the 2007 Mayo Clinic study of 29 women, 21 of whom completed the study?

Thanks!

I'm not aware of any further research on this question.  However, I've had a number of patients over the years who have found hot flashes to diminish with flax seed...other helpful supplements include black cohosh 40-80mg daily, Vitamin E 400 IU twice daily, calcium and, of course, regular vigorous exercise has been found to reduce both the number and intensity of hot flashes.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm going to try everything you mentioned, since I'm on my 20,000 hot flash. So sick of them!

I am 51 and started eating flaxseed in yogert for the health benefits, etc.  Anyway after approx. 2 weeks I noticed I hadn't had a hot flash!  Thought I was crazy at first till I did a search on the internet about it and viola! Others found the same thing.  Mine have diminished I can honestly say by 98%!!  No lie.

I started out with  1 - 2  t in yogert, then went up to 2 T.  On days I don't eat it, I take the supplement.

It does work!!!

Okay, I'm sold. I'd been using a little of the oil on my food, and didn't notice any results. I'll up it to 2T. I'm desperate! Tx so much for replying. I really appreciate it.
