I am 46 years of age and have had regular periods all of my life. I completely missed my last period, could this be the start of the menopause? I haven't lost or gained any weight recently and have had no emotional shocks.

Tracy,
The only way to know for sure if you are going through menopause is to have a blood test to check for certain hormone levels, called FSH. Missing your period just once isn't an accurate indicator. In fact, you have to be without a period for a year before you are "officially" in menopause. However, at your age, your hormones can certainly be wavering, and that could be the start of something....
Write back to me in a month or two and see if you are still not having your period. OK? And if you just can't wait to find out, ask a doctor.
Stay in touch,
