    Hi, Susan,

I'm not a doctor, so I consulted several resources to try to answer your question, If you had a hysterectormy in which your uterus was removed but your ovaries left intact, you may go through more abrupt and severe menopause, according to Barbara Seaman and Laura Eldridge in "The No-Nonsense Guide to Menopause." From the various sources that I've checked, symptoms can last several years but that each individual experiences menopause differently. I'd suggest that if you're having severe symptoms, you should talk to your health care provider to determine if any treatments can help you.

Take care and keep us posted!
