I'm assuming since you said your mom is taking estrogen and did not mention progesterone that she probably had a hysterectomy.  Usually, MDs don't give progesterone to women after a hyst because they think of it as only necessary to protect the uterus.  However, a very important function of progesterone is as a mood stabilizer and mood enhancer.  I would strongly recommend your mom see her provider and ask for a prescription of Prometrium...this is the human-identical form of progesterone.  She doesn't want to take any of the substitutes.  They can actually cause more depression.  Your mom is lucky to have you looking out for her!  Best of luck,

Sandy

I am a psychotherapist who refers alot of my patients for medication for depression, etc.

I don't know what Deanxit is and have never heard of it.  Are you sure that is what the medication is called?  I would have your mother meet with a psychiatrist who could further evaluate her depression.  She may need another medication.  Depression is very manageable with all the good medication out there.
