Q: Brief memory loss - menopause symptom?

Since my periods have stopped, a couple times a day I have about a 1-3 minute period where I forget what I'm doing or talking about. Its starts with a tingling in my head (sometimes starting lower in my body and ending in my head). After its over, I'm ok again. The only thing is I can't really explain what I was doing right before it happened. During these periods I can be in the middle of telling a story, and totally forget what I'm talking about, the persons name I'm talking to... Does this sound like a menopause symptom? I do have a couple other symptoms - heart palpitations, hot at night ... I'm now on my second type of HRT. I was on both for about a month and they don't seem to work on any of the symptoms. Does HRT Sometimes not work? Could it take longer than 1 month to work?

It's very common to have short term memory lapses in perimenopause/menopause, lose words/names/phone numbers, be more distractible, have harder time focusing/concentrating.  Some of us sometimes switch words or numbers, forget directions or can't remember "why am I in this room anyway?!".

Having said that, I have to say that what you describe sounds like more than that and I would encourage you to see your primary doctor.  It could just be hormonal but that should be determined by your provider.

Good luck to you,

Sandy

Don't worry too much - I too have had the tingling in my head -  the brief periods of memory loss, right about the time I stopped my periods.   I think it's all typical peri-menopausal stuff!
