Q: Could I be pregnant after no period for seven months at age 50?

I have not had a period for seven months, I had intercourse and now have physical symptoms of pregnancy and wake up with night sweats like menopause. Could I be pregnant?

Hi, Friend,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I was in the middle of written exams for the doctoral program I'm in.

With that said, I'd suggest talking to your doctor. My understanding is that you are not fully through menopause until you haven't had a period for a full one-year period, so there could be a possibility of pregnancy. Your doctor can provide the answer.

Take care and keep us posted!

Hi Friend,

After 7 months of no periods and being age 50, it is very unlikely that you could still get pregnant, but it is not impossible.  You will want to have your provider run a follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) blood test on you to give you the definitive answer.

Good luck,
