Q: Bioidentical hormones and Thyroid medication.

On Prometrium 100 mg daily and Vivelle Dot 0.05mg patch for the last month 1/2. Just had thyroid re-checked. Results indicate that my Synthroid needs to be decreased from 0.137 to 0.125. Although, I have been feeling more tired and skin has been feeling dry and rashy even before decreasing my Synthroid. Is this usual?

It is not unusual for estrogen to "interfere" with thyroid hormone, usually by decreasing it.  It's important for midlife women who are on both meds to have their thyroid checked yearly and/or if they have symptom changes.  Fatigue and skin changes can be attributed to either low thyroid or estrogen/progesterone.  Once your thyroid is balanced, if you still have symptoms, your bioidentical hormones may need adjusting.

Good luck to you,

Sandy
