Q: 49 yrs and have heavy bleeding and clotting

Hi, I am 49 yrs. and am experiencing heavy bleeding and clotting. I was on Depo Provera shot from July,2003-August,2010 for seven years. Have been off for four months now.Started spotting on December 29, 2010 and I still am bleeding heavily and clotting heavily now on January 9, 2011. Have spoke to four nurses from Planned Parenthood, all have said I need an endometrial biopsy. Unemployed and uninsured, should I wait three-four weeks for an appointment with a low cost clinic or get endometrial biopsy from Planned Parenthood for a fee?Have had heavy bleeding using many super long maxi pads per day with clotting the sized of lemons with mucuos in it(sorry tmi).Have soar breasts/nipples,feel weak and tired, trying to eat normally and drink much more fluids-water and juices. I am also on an anticoagulent(warfarin/coumadin) for a prosthetic aortic heart valve daily for the rest of my life. Thanks for any advice or help. Cam.

Hi, Cam,

You're in a difficult position. I'd suggest trying to get this taken care of as soon as possible. In my experience, it's better to be efficient in taking care of one's health so that other issues don't develop.

Take care and keep us posted!

Yes, Cam, you definitely need to have this evaluated as soon as possible. It could be the result of the Depo withdrawal and hormonal imbalance of perimenopause.  However, between the heavy bleeding and clots, plus being on a blood thinner, this situation isn't one to delay on.  A vaginal ultrasound and probably biopsy are in order.

Good luck to you and keep in touch,
