I just heard of Evamist as a HRT. Can you give me any info on this product?
I am 54 today and have been in menopause for a couple of years. My night sweats have slowed down but I am having hot flashes by the minutes. I have never taken a hormone replacement and prefer not to, but I am so distressed over these flashes that I am ready to try anything.
Hi Debbie,
Evamist is a newer product, made specifically to treat hot flashes. It is estradiol which is the bioidentical form of estrogen like your body made, so it is the best form for you to use. It is a topical and comes in a handy pump. It is very low dose and is absorbed directly into your bloodstream. You put 1, 2 or 3 pumps on your forearm each day, depending on the dose prescribed. It dries very quicky, and that's all there is to it. As I say, it is new, so we don't have a lot of patient experience with it yet, but women do seem to like it so far. Remember, if you have a uterus, you would also need to be on progesterone if you use the Evamist. This is to protect your uterus against overgrowing uterine tissue which could become abnormal. Progesterone also improves sleep and mood, so if you have those issues, it's a bonus. Be sure the progesterone you get is the bioidentical, not the others (especially Provera/medroxyprogesterone) which will not help sleep or mood and may cause other unpleasant side effects.
Good luck getting rid of those flashes, Sandy
