Q: kidney stone treatment brought back menstruation

I am 48, went through early menopause about 5 years ago, haven't had a period for three years except for one month about a year ago when I started drinking soy protein shakes. Periods stopped promptly after I stopped drinking the soy shakes. Last month I was treated for a kidney stone (hydrocodone, tamsulosin, morphine, antibiotics) and I started menstruating today. Any insight as to which of these drugs may be the culprit? Thank you.

Hi Mauilisa,

I don't know of any direct connection between any of the drugs you mentioned and your bleeding.  It may be purely coincidental or triggered by the effect of the kidney infection on your system.  Since you went through menopause 5 yrs. ago, I would recommend you see your gynecologist to evaluate the bleeding.  The previous bleed after the soy shakes makes sense to me, but this one needs evaluating.

Thanks for writing,
