Anthony,
My husband and I are both self-employed and work out of our home so, I don't have any first hand suggestions. I get migraines myself but they have not been very troublesome. I miss a lot of work for my son's migraines. Luckily, I can reschedule my clients when needed. However, I have lost some clients due to this. Sometimes, I have to work an 80 hour week to make up for a week when my son has a bad episode.
What kind of work environment do you have? Is it with a small company or a larger one? Some companies will let you work extra hours and build up leave to take in the future. Other companies have a leave program where another employee will donate their leave. Are these possible options for you?
Do you have a spouse that can work overtime or a second job? What about financial assistance from family and friends-if they offer-don't be ashamed and accept it.
Do you have a craft or hobby that you enjoy and could use to generate extra money?
Of course, you should have a budget and cut any expenses that you can. Try to build a nest egg for when you have leave without pay. I know that is harder to do in real life. But, I also know that if I cut out my Starbucks, I'd save $70 a month.
I wish I had more suggestions for you. I will keep you in my thoughts.
