It seems, after having one of the worst migraines ever, my migraines have changed. First, I have to say it is nice to have a name for some of the migraines I have been experiencing. It's important to be able to distinguish the level of pain and explain it to my husband.
So, since about two weeks ago, when I had what seems to have been a hemiplegic migraine, I now have regular ice pick headaches. They occur every half hour or so, and are not just one but about 3-4 in a 2 minute period of time. At least one is sharp enough to confuse me. I was talking to my husband about them and completely stumbled over my words at one point. I looked at him and he just looked surprised. We've never had to deal with this before and it's a little disconcerting.
One good thing though, is my husband has become my advocate. I hate going to the doctor, mostly because we don't have insurance and the money spent concerns me if I can't fix the problem or it finds more that will cost more money to fix. Im sure Im not the only one who feels like this. He told me today that we will go into the city (4 hours away) on the fifth and get me seen my a doctor if possible. We have to be in the city for business reasons anyway, but he is wanting to take an extra day and have me seen. It's so nice to have someone care for you. Anyhow, just documenting and sharing what Im going through. Thanks for listening. I'll post if I am able to see a doc and get some help.

I know that feeling, that "great... now what?" feeling, the fear of going through something different than what you are used to - of course you are going to be more fearful of some type of brain injury or disease. This site has been very helpful to me as far as migraine education goes. I learned about the garden variety of migraines that existed ( my doctors were the least helpful) from members. It has eased my mind tremendously to see that others are having similiar, if not identical experience as me. I hope this site does the same for you.
I was recently given the "inside" scoop scoop from an RN friend of mine about the best way to get your meds without the outragous costs - first, see if you doctor has samples available, second, go directly to the manufacturer. It's a little bit of work (I just tried this myself so I don't know if it works yet). Write a hardship letter to the manufacturer (meds) and describe your financial situation, of course include your need for this rx for continued treatment. According to my source, some of these companies have resources available to us when finances are involved. Doesn't hurt to ask....That is so nice to hear that you have your husband's support like you do. My husband has surprised me every time with the same type of support, it takes a great big load off to know that he's acting like he has a clue (even if he doesn't - God bless him!). I wish I had some words of encouragement to offer, some type of guarantee that the headaches won't get worse, that you will find the perfect doctor, the perfect treatment. All I can really say is hang in there, you are not alone, anything you are going through, about a couple of dozen members have gone through the same and can tell you what has gotten them through it, hoping that it will help you.
I saw the pic of your boys (your profile), they are adorable - let them be your strength! Take good care, best of luck with everything
.
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I appreciate all the help I can get. I am currently searching for a good doctor. We just moved to a new town and don't really know where to go. Luckily, there are quite a few to choose from and the hospital has a really great reputation. I'm just happy having a name. Instead of running through the list of symptoms everytime. Thanks again, and good luck in your own quest to quiet the pain.
