Well i went for my first visit with the neurologist today. I've learned not to get my hope up with doctors, but this once seems really concerned. He actually listened to me, and answered all my questions.   he did a basic neuro exam, commented on my balance, and the problems with my left eye. ...

Its a long road from first Neurology consult, to relief.  At least it was for us.  My now 13 year old son began having migraines at age 11.  We tried modest remedies, and he ended up with "rebound headaches" from overuse of Motrin.  So then we moved on  to Topamax at bedtime ( preventive med)... 10 weeks later our result was NO relief.  By now I'd begun to get frustrated for my young son who couldn't live life because of 3-4 migraines in a 7 day period.  I began to voice my frustration to the Neurologist... who THEN offers "Maxalt".  Its a rescue med, but it works and from what I have read and discussed with others in the medical field, works MOST of the time for nearly everybody who uses it!  Well.. I was thankful and happy that we'd found something that helped, but WHY did we go nearly 2 years to get this?  We went from over the counter to prescription then we'd wait 2 1/2 mos to see if the med would help and then go back... Well I found out " in part" why .. the Maxalt tablets are very very expensive.  Thankfully, not to us, as we have good health insurance.  But the health

organization that we go to, has to pay for those tablets.. and at about $100 a pop, they aren't delighted to tell you about them.  I had previously charted foods, moods,

offered riboflavin rich foods recommended by an article I read in the newspaper... we tried it all.   Now a mixture of Topamax and Nortriptyline at bedtime have greatly reduced the frequency and severity of my sons migraines.  But it took nearly three months of these meds for the relief to kick in.  I too had migraines from my early teens until I was 40.  I wish you all luck!
