I am a retinal migraine sufferer. The pain is so ineffeble, so exquisite that it makes me delirious and delusional - it literally distorts reality. Recently, I have been contemplating suicide. If I cannot find a way to prevent them or manage them I will most likely take my own life. My posting is legitimate and my desperation is indeed genuine. If anyone comes across this who has found a way to fight back, minimize, regulate their retinal migraines, please share...
I'm so sorry your Migraines are so bad, but I'm very glad you're here and reaching out.
Please, believe me when I tell you there IS help out there. Possibly the biggest part of the battle is finding a doctor who has experience with difficult Migraine cases and how to treat the disease. Many of us have found that the turning point was in going to an actual Migraine specialist. To help people find these wonderful doctors, we have a listing of specialists recommended BY PATIENTS. Please take a look at our Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specilists.
Of course, I have no way of knowing what you've tried, but there are now over 100 medications that can be used for Migraine prevention. You can find a list of them in our article Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!
To stop a Migraine in progress, there are now seven medications in the triptan family -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Axert, Frova, and Relpax -- and a new combination of Imitrex and naproxen called Treximet. Other abortives include DHE, Migranal, and Midrin.

Being in frequent pain is exhausting, frustrating and debilitating. It dampens ones spirit, plays havoc with minds, and can be very isolating. I've been there. In fact, Teri, who gave you those great links, lifted me up from a very dark place about eight years ago with plenty of support and education about Migraine disease. Learning all I could, finding the right doctors lead me in the right direction for a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. We can help you with this too, ok?
It sounds like so much, more doctors, more information, just more everything. Well, you've found people here who experience Migraine disease everyday along with you and it stinks. We have a discussion forum that have some of the most caring, compassionate people I have seen who are in a great deal of pain and totally "get it." If you click HERE it will bring you to the forum.
We are here, and "hear" you. So please let us know how you are holding up.
