Exercise Is Healthy, but with Migraines?

By Teri Robert, Health Guide Sunday, April 04, 2010
We're often told that we need to exercise for better health; told that our Migraines and headaches would improve if we exercise. We all understand that, BUT how are we to exercise when we feel as if our heads might explode? Good question! We've learned that Migraine is a disease that needs to b...

Teri, Swiffer should be paying you for the exercise tips.  You have surely put a smile on my face, but the best one was playing with the pet or Profpatches!  He was very impressed with that one!

There is one other area that causes a migraine for sure and that is a high spirited church service, I love it, but always come home with a blinding migraine!

I'm looking forward to that book about children with migraines, its wonderful and it can't come soon enough!

I have to look at exercising in a much different light, thank you and my house work thanks you :)

I suffer from migraines for more than 30 years. I tried every possible approach from traditional doctors to accupancture, I tried all preventive drugs, therapists, etc, nothing seams to really help. The only thing that really helps is working out. Even on a day when I have a bad headache but not a full blown migraine attack i never miss my spin class or kickboxing clas. Even if I start working out with a headache it goes away and I feel great for about 1.5-2 hours after this and when it comes nback its not as suvere. I found it almost vital for me to work out everyfday, you just have to find the right activity for you which is both fun, good cardio but not too much jumping.

I hope it helps.

Exercise helps me a lot. In April of 2008 I went on disability because I had pretty much a continuous migraine. The doctor encouraged me to start by just walking around the block. At first I struggled with waves of exhertion headaches, so I would be worse than when I started out. Eventually I got to a point where exercise either makes me feel better or at least not any worse. I do a combination of weight training and cardio. It helps me keep my sleep schedule regular. I'm back to 3 to 4 headaches days a week, so its not a cure but definitely is a tool. If I take a long break from exercise exhertion headaches tend to come back for a little while.
