Because I'd had known the pain that causes suicidal impulses myself, I didn't realize how badly my 19-year-old daughter was being thought of and talked to by ER staff the day I took her to the hospital because she had taken a bottle of anti-anxiety medication. I found out through a friend who came to help me that the medical staff look down on people who have attempted suicide and failed. Others do too. Both my daughters have problems with depression, as well as migraine.
Today I found an interesting article on genetics in the NY Times. You may have read it already. It indicates that "mental illness" may be passed by mothers to offspring and also that genes are often passed on which are shared by close relatives--both depression and migraine disease are shared by close relatives.
