Midrin Update: Migraine Abortive Epidrin Also Discontinued

By Teri Robert, Health Guide Monday, February 14, 2011
There's more information on the situation with the Migraine abortive medication Midrin and equivalent and similar medications. If you've been following this saga, you know that Midrin has been permanently discontinued. For the background on this, see Migraine and Midrin-Like Medications Update 1/15/1...

I guess CVS didn't get the memo. I just filled a new rx for this. It says right on the bottle "Generic for Midrin," and then, "Isomethept-Dichloraplp-Acetamin." I sure hope it wasn't d/ced for anything seriously wrong. Because it works!

The drugs have been discontinued but for awhile you may still be able to find them sporadically at pharmacies who may have ordered some awhile back and still have stock on their shelves.

There will come a point very soon though where no one will have the drug or what they have will be expired and they will be unable to get more.

Your best option at this point is to have the drug compounded for you at a pharmacy that specializes in compounding.

Your doctor should be able to help you locate a compounding pharmacy.

i found on another site in response to midrin being discontinued that a compunding company in delaware was still making midrin at only $1 a pill - its called safeway compounding company (you can google it) and they are OUTSTANDING!! you just need a prescription from your doctor for as many ppills as you would like and within a week they send it out to you by ups with a shipping cost of $10 - but these prices are amazing compared to what i was paying at the pharmacy hen i could get them locally - i HIGHLY recommend this company and suggest that you spread the word to any and all migraine sufferers everywhere ! their customer service is superb as well - good luck!

Epidrin was the only thing that worked on treating migraines for me. Since then, I've been having to test other drugs and nothing seems to work. I don't understand why they discontinued this. I'll have to look into compounding pharmacies, I didn't even know that was an option.
