Migraines and Michele Bachmann - Facts and Perspective
Migraines have lead the news for the last week, following The Daily Caller's article about Michele Bachmann. An unusual occurrence. What wasn't unusual is that the news coverage replete with incorrect information and reeked of the stigma associated with Migraine.
Although Bachmann released a letter from Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of Congress, saying that her Migraines are "infrequent," some of the media continued to report about her "chronic" Migraines. The Daily Caller's headline said, "heavy pill used alleged," yet the note from her doctor said she takes only sumatriptan (Imitrex) and ondansetron (Zofran) as needed.
The coverage of Bachmann's Migraines is of concern to all Migraineurs because it can impact the way people perceive all of us, not just Bachmann.
I've written a couple of pieces here about Bachmann's Migraines:

Saturday on Fox News Watch, there was an interesting segment in which they discussed the coverage of Bachmann's Migraines, the use of anonymous sources, and whether her Migraines should be an issue. They also mentioned women who were writing about the issue and mentioned my blog. If you missed it and would like to watch it, you can watch the video on the on my personal blog, Putting Our Heads Together.
Since the way Migraines are reported is so important to all of us, I hope you'll take a few minutes to follow the links above and read the posts.
