I just went in for testing (TEE) where they use a scope inserted down your throat.  (I'd rather have a root canal than go through that again.) They are looking at your heart from inside so your ribs don't get in the way. They were looking for a hole in my heart.  (All they found was a slight leak in the left ventricle.)

I had a PFO closure this past February.  I was exhibiting stroke symptoms and chronic migraine with aura, so my cardiologist (who also heads the PFO clinical trial at Duke) suggested I get it closed.

The procedure itself wasn't that bad - more weird than anything!  My daily, unexplained headaches decreased about 50%.  Although I still suffer from migraines triggered by everything from job stress to hormones, it's nice to not suffer daily anymore.

Despite what the clinical trials prove, I love knowing that my own migraines decreased and that the huge, gaping hole I once had won't be the cause of a stroke.  I'm glad I had it done.
