Sean "P. Diddy" Combs Rushed to ER with Migraine

By Teri Robert, Health Guide Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Rapper and music producer Sean "P. Diddy" Combs  was rushed to the UCLA emergency room by some of his staff members on Monday morning with what he later described as a "crazy Migraine."   His ER visit followed a pre-Grammy Awards party in Beverly Hills on Saturday hosted by Clive Davis ...

Not to say that I was not excited about the article, but I was happy to hear that migraines happen to everyone - and when it involves a celebrity, people become more aware of it.

But, what disappointed me were the comments that people made.

Here is one: "A migraine? A MIGRAINE? Please I had migraines most of my life. Take 3 Iburprofen - close your drapes - close your eyes - and LAY DOWN IN BED for a couple hours. Quit being such a wuss and running to the hospital - grown up idiot and deal with it like a MAN..."

If you really have had migraines most of your life then maybe you would be more sensitive and understanding and not putting him down and supporting that stigma that us (also) with migraines have had to deal with our entire migraine existence.

What I keep saying is that people who make comments like this are ignorant; they do not educate themselves about migraine disease. Yes, disease. Migraines are painful; they cause sensitivity issues with light/sounds/smell. In fact a particular perfume can cause me into a downward spiral of migraine hell that only meds and a nap can cure.

Oh, I have been to the ER for my migraines – not that they have been helpful, but when you are in that much pain, it seems like the only solution you have.

Great article Teri! People would change their tune if they had to suffer with just one severe, 3 day, throwing up a couple dozen time, pain you can't see straight migraine. Thank you.

Thanks, genes56, and you're very welcome.

I have to agree with you. I'm so worn out by people who don't have a clue making such horrid comments.

EVERY migraine is different, just as every person is different.  Some people don't have that horrible life-paralyzing pain and don't understand how bad it can be.

You have no idea how much it helps when you do acknowledge that sometimes you would wish a person would experience a migraine. I am also in that boat, while it might sound good, admirable even, to say that you would not wish migraine on anybody.

In my opinion people have hard time imagining health condition, especially these :invisible: ones. It is easy to judge, to think you know how they feel, but in reality, unless you have experienced it there is no way of knowing and it is this kind of ignorance that propels the myths and judgment forward.

So yes, I too wish that ignorant people and know-it-alls would have one of my worse migraines and then told me what they think, how much an ibuprofen helps.

Hi, Eva,

I used to truly feel that I'd never wish a Migraine on anyone, but the ingorant, vicious comments some people make have simply worn me out. So, yes, there are people I'd wish a Migraine on. I'd might as well be honest about it.

What really gets me is when a Migraineur acts that way. It just shows that they're fortunate enough to not have truly severe Migraines.

The Internet is wonderful for all the information we have access to, BUT some personal interactions leave a great deal to be desired. I think the relative anonymity and obvious physical distance from other people make people less sensitive to others. I doubt that some people would have the nerve to make some of these comments to others face-to-face. Frown

Thanks for commenting!

Hi Teri,

I hate to say it but I have found myself wishing a migraine on another person when they make insensitive remarks and have no idea about the the pain you are going thru. I have a relative that will come in saying "Get Up!! Get Up!! What are you crying for ?" What hurts is, I have hemipledgic migraines, so I couldn't get up if I wanted to.

I can't believe someone with a true migraine would say take a couple ibuprofren and lay down and take like a Man. I'm wondering if they really have migraines.

      Thanks for listening.

The poor man, I now how horrid these migraines are and how insensitive people can be. Unless you have found yourself wishing you could drill a hole in your head if that would stop the pain and make you feel better. I would do anything if I thought it would make it better. Are you kidding me taking an over the counter med for a migraine!!! No way I wouldn't want to risk a rebound headache and visit more pain on myself. No way. I'm not sure 3 ibuprofen would even registered if I tried it. Ok I have tried that, years ago didn't help. I had one that I took 5 midrib that day, 3 darvocet, something else my doctor had prescribed all under his orders before I went to the ER and they had to five me morphine to knock me out. So no, I'm pretty sure 3 ibuprofen wouldn't help. Sorry bit of a rant there.

I'm fairly certain that if I went to the ER with a migraine I'd be there for at least 6 hours, maybe 12 before a doctor looked at me.

Hi, Skeptic,

I'm not sure what your point is in relation to Combs going to the ER. I don't remember seeing anything anywhere about how long he waited. I did see him on Ellen the other day, and he said that his own doctor met him at the ER.

Now that I am 3/4 of a century old, and have suffered from Migraines, I can honestly say, 'Migraine's'  can put you to bed for days.   Years ago, my Doctor told me "three things can cause a Migrain,  Chocolate, Nuts, and raw Onions.  He had me go off of all three for a month,  and

then He  told me to intruduce them,  one at a time, back  into my diet.  I can tell you  the first thing I tried was Chocolate!!! then I waited a week, no headache. I had some Nuts, several kinds, again no headache.  Fresh Onions,  and I was back to bed with a Migraine.  The Doctor explained it was the oil in the onion that can can cause the headaches.  To this day, I do not eat fresh

onions.  Cooked, or dryed, do not cause me a problem.  Just because it

solved my problem does not mean it is the magic cure for you, but, it

sure is worth a try.  It cannot harm you, and who knows, it might just help.  Here's praying it is helpfull.
