By Teri Robert, Health Guide Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Recent headlines related to Migraine are replete with those related to brain freeze and ice cream headaches. Why? Because of a research poster presented Sunday afternoon at the Experimental Biology 2012 meeting in San Diego. The Headlines: Some of the headlines have read: Now there's a cure for ...

I HATE migraines

As difficult it is for me to deal with the pain of either one individually I just can't see myself trying to see if giving myself a brain freeze while having a migraine would help... Also, what I have issue with, and I'm not a medical professional in any way, shape or form, is the fact that the blood is already having issue with flow and the possibility of slowing it down even more scares me... I mean I get sever migraines to the point of already moving in slow motion and thinking slow making me believe that blood flow is probably dangerously low anyway so what would an additional 10 to 15 secs of further narrowing do??? And would it narrow even longer during a migraine because the two are fighting each other??? I don't know... This just seems to have issues to me... My brain already has issues as it is... lol

Teri,

Thank you for not being afraid to speak up when you see a problem with research and for calling out some of the media on their sensationialism. It's great to have you in our corner.

Hi Teri!  Thank you for sharing the results of this study, and also your astute analysis of the results.  Skepticism is healthy!

I fear that some folks who are desperate might read this study and try to freeze their palate and also apply frozen packs to their head.  This can lead to hypothermia which is dangerous.  Years ago, a female grocery store thief fainted and fell to the floor after stealing a frozen chicken which was hidden under her hat.  Hypothermia can be dangerous.
