Did You Miss the Diane Rehm Show on Migraine?

Teri Robert @trobert Health Guide
  • It was a great hour discussing Migraine on the Diane Rehm Show on NPR last week! If you missed it, don't worry. I'm going to post a link so you can listen to the archived show online.

The hour went by so quickly it seemed that it was over as soon as we'd started, but I have to say it was one of the most productive hours I've ever spent.

I was in great company with the other panelists. The were:

    • Dr. Perry Richardson: neurologist at George Washington University Hospital.
    • Dr. David Dodick: Migraine specialist and director of the headache center at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona; chairman of the American Migraine Foundation.
    • Dr. Story Landis: director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health (NIH).

One of our biggest problems is the misinformation and old information that's circulating about Migraines. Well, there's a reason Diane's show is nationally syndicated and she's so popular. She's darned good and asks great questions. Thanks to her, in the first few minutes of the show, the audience learned that Migraines are far more than headaches and that they're a brain disorder, not vascular. Not only did we discuss Migraine itself, she asked Dr. Landis about NIH funding of Migraine research.

The Twitter and email questions were pouring in, and the phone lines were busy. Some of the callers really pulled at my heart strings. I'm thankful that I was able to tell the audience how to find me on Facebook because that lets them see all the links to Migraine information that I post and get in touch with me if I can be of any help. Some of them have been in touch with me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to point some of them toward the help they need.

I'd like to take this opportunity to send my most sincere thanks to Diane and Rebecca, her producer (who is a Migraineur) for doing this show and for asking me to be a part of it. It was a wonderful experience, one I'd love to repeat someday. Thank you!
