Migraine & Headache Awareness Blog Challenge 11 - Dreams
Today's challenge for the 2014 Migraine and Headache Awareness Blog Challenge is:
Write about this quote from Langston Hughes:
"Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly."
This is such an insightful quote. Dreams are important for many reasons. They help us reach for what we can achieve, arrive at solutions and decisions that elude us in our waking times.
Dreams can show us not only what is, but what could be, and that can help us hold on to both dreams and hope. Dreams and hope are so closely tied, and we've seen all to clearly in the migraine community that loss of hope is all too devastating. Little else can matter when hope has evaporated.
This quote reminds me of one of my very favorite poems, “Hope” is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson. It begins:“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
I hope everyone will think about both the Langston Hughes quote and the Emily Dickinson quote. Think about them, absorb them, remember them. May you never lose your dreams or hope.
