One of the biggest complaints Migraineurs have is access to Migraine abortive medications, especially the triptans - Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc.   The problem isn't getting a doctor to prescribe triptans. Doctors prefer to prescribe abortive medications that can actually stop a Migrain...

Teri, I cannot wait for the site to become active so I can be active with it too.

I just got off the phone with my insurance company and was informed that I am not covered for further triptans until the end of this month because I exceeded the 90 day max.  I explained it would be cheaper for them to waive the limit versus me having to go to the ER to be treated.

Their answer: a form is on it's way for my request of excessive medication usage.

I promise to vote wisely....not on promises made but records earned.

Thanks for your hard work, Teri!

    Laura,

    Thanks, and you're welcome.

I'm sorry you're having an issue with triptans. It's so stupid. IMO, if you have a bad Migraine, and your ER treats you well, you should just go to the ER if you have another Migraine and don't have triptans to use. Well, that is if it won't cost YOU too much. The insurance company deserves high ER charges when they limit us like that. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Furious

There are so many healthcare issues that need to be addressed. I really hope people will do their research and vote!

DH is active duty so the cost of an ER visit is actually less than the cost of my triptan co-pay....so, if it comes down to a migraine like ten days ago, it is off to the ER I go!

    BTW, I agree...grrrrrrrrrrrr

Let me know what little Laura in VA can do to help the cause!!

    Hugs,

It's so sad that this is what insurance has come to! I think you're right, it's cheaper for me to go to the ER too then to go fill a script for my triptans - although - filling my script is more "enjoyable" (if you can call it that) then sitting in an ER.....

I wonder if they are still doing those things with the YOUTUBE questions for the debates?.....we should all do one!

Teri, amen from the choir!  I work in politics, so I understand the critical importance of voter input.

Fellow migraineurs, it's this simple: elected officials pay attention to what you tell them to.  If you want your president, senator, representative, state and local officials to fight for your issue, tell them.  Get your family, friends and others affected to tell them, too.  You wouldn't send a soldier into battle on your behalf with no ammunition.  Constituent calls, emails, faxes and visits are ammo to officeholders.  The more input they have from you, the more ammo they have to do the right thing.

I tell all the politicians I know in my turf better than "hi, how are you?" about my condition, preparing them for the day when something close to the migraine community crosses their desks.   You'd better believe I'll be their first call.

I am very excited about the site and learning more about the candidates views and experience with these issues. I am very active in politics. I never miss a chance to vote. I also write letters, send emails, and make phone calls when I feel the need to. I put these people in office and they are going to hear from me!! DH laughs at me and says I am not going to do any good by myself. But if everyone said that, then no one would do anything - am I right? I vote and have a right for my voice to be heard. So count me in and let me know what I can do.

Imitrex goes off patent in 2009, which means generics will be available for much less money. Although I, too, resent the limits insurance companies place on the number of Imitrex they'll pay for each month, I have to admit that even when I have to pay full price, it's worth it. These drugs are very recent inventions, and I wouldn't want to eliminate the profits that give pharmaceutical companies the incentive to develop them.
