Thanks Teri for your efforts to get better treatments for migraine sufferers. I struggle with this daily and try not to let it frustrate me.

My doctors - even my neurologist - are allocated (i.e. paid) to spend 10 minutes with me per visit. I don't know how a doctor is expected to properly diagnose, discuss, and recommend a treatment plan in 10 minutes.

I have found that in Canada, hospitals no longer want to treat patients. Someone has developed and spread the belief that people are better off at home. My mother-in-law recently broke her femur and when she wasn't ready to go home in a week the hospital wanted to send her to an old people's home.

My neurologist often comments "we used to do this in the hospital". I have written letters to our Canadian politicians. Many don't respond, those that do just respond with rhetoric about everything they are doing to save healthcare. In Canada I can't even "pay" for good healthcare if I want it.

    Hi Happyarch!

    I too am Canadian

I can very much sympathize with your 10 minute doctors. Its sickening isnt it?

There is no standard of care anymore in canada. They don't care anymore. And they can't do it in 10 minutes! You are absolutely right about the fact that you cant even pay for good care here if you want it!

But I am unusual in that my frustrations became intolerable and I decided to go to the USA for treatment, bypass the whole darn canadian system.  It sure wasnt a 10 minute visit *over an hr!* I get alot of grief from Canadian doctors when they found out I went to the states.... undermining our precious system....

well maybe if you had a better one???

    maybe if your doctors cared???

I hear your frustrations as a fellow canadian!

    Hi bimini,

Thanks for the comment. I am so impressed that you were able to go to the states.

Unfortunately we're in a predicament that my husband earns enough to support us and make us ineligible for any financial help. There just isn't any money left over to go to the states.

So, the burning question is ... did it help? What did they do?

On the positive side my doctors are great. Both my gp and neurologist spend as much time as is needed when I'm there. They both listen, discuss any concerns or questions I might have, and make sure they have done all they can. Unfortunately their hands are tied. They can't admit me to a hospital unless I lose my mind and they think I'm dangerous -- then they can admit us for 72 hours.

I hope your treatment went well. I would be interested in knowing your results.

Hi, I tried to send the e-mail, but I couldn't find a red box.  Are you sure this website is working?
