A question that frequently arises is,

"How do you tell if it's a Migraine or a tension headache?"

At times, it can be hard to tell the difference, especially at the beginning of the episode. But it can be important to know.

A tension-type headache (TTH) can trigger a Migraine, but many of us have different treatments for TTH and Migraine. So, we need to figure out if it's TTH or Migraine so we can take the right medication.

Triptans such as Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc., aren't the right medication for TTH, BUT if we have a Migraine, they work best when taken early in the Migraine attack.

So, how do we know?

Well, I have a treat for you -- a video featuring one of the top Migraine experts, Dr. Richard B. Lipton.

Dr. Lipton is a Professor of Neurology, Epidemiology and Social Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, Ney York. He is also the director of the Montefiore Headache Center. Without further ado, I'll let this video speak for itself...
