Not only for medical research but also for people who are applying for SSD who suffer from migraines or fibromyalgia.  They are tightening the ropes on funds there as well.  Funds are not as available for our disabled people but are available to kill people.   Sigh....

As a migraineur and former military family member, I exerienced both ends of care from the military insurance.  Partly it depended on whether there was good care available (similar to whether you have a good headache clinic nearby on your regular civilian insurance) and also depended on the cost of the medicines themselves.  They always start with whatever costs less, and justifying more costly meds (such as triptans) almost never happened.  It's also an ugly fact that whether you are enlisted or officer in rank matters, too.  The military always takes the best care of the activie duty members first, and what happens to them after duty ends or to their family members just never seems very clear and it's always changing.
