Migraines, Headaches, Basilar Migraines, Neuralgia
I've been suffering with migraines since I was 15, and with headaches in general as a child. I've tried everything from herbs (feverfew, vitamin B, and others); narcotics (vicodin, fioricet); various triptans (imitrex, frova, maxalt and finally relpax). Migraine prevention I've tried has included beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and most recently Topamax, which worked at first but then migraines started to increase again in frequency. Relpax has worked the best but I still experience migraines every 2 weeks and more frequently, every 4 days. The migraines last anywhere from 2-72 hours. I usually am bedridden when they occur and cannot attempt activity until a spell has subsided. I've gone through menopause and have done HRT which made the migraines worse, so had to quit that. I take effexor for hot flashes and mild depression. I am considering consulting an endocrinologist at the recommendation of the facility RN at my husband's place of employment.
