My boyfriend has been diagnosed with this ndph

By Linda Peterson Sunday, February 08, 2009

About 6-8 months ago my boyfriend was diagnosed with this new daily persistent headache syndrome or whatever. i think it is just a catch-all phrase cause they can't explain why he has had these debilitating headaches for almost a year and a half now. I mean constantly 24/7, he says they never let up.He is on something like 2400 mg of neurontin daily and nortriptyline. he says it takes the edge off, but I think there is more to this and he should keep going to the Dr. till he finds the right one who can tell him why he is having these headaches.

Hi, Linda,

Of course, nobody here has any way of knowing what your boyfriend's headaches are, but I do want to tell you that NDPH is a very real headache disorder. You can read about it in New Daily Persistent Headache - The Basics.

If he's not satisfied with the diagnosis, there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a second opinion. If his doctor isn't able to help, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

I hope he finds some relief soon,

Teri

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

As Teri said, New Daily Persistent Headache (NDPH) is not just a "catch-all," but a real type of headache. In fact, NDPH is listed in the International Headache Society's International.Classification of Headache Disorders and used as the gold standard in diagnosing different types of Migraines and headache disorders.

Daily pain is exhausting and frustrating. It takes a toll on the entire family wearing down loved ones and friends alike.
