Great week

By CEB56 Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Last week my headache lasted 6 days.  It was not intense the entire time, just enough some days to dampen my day. Today was the first day that I was headache free and it felt so wonderful. I am wondering if anyone else's headache came on several days after their arua and not right away like mine.  It took 3 days. It's gone now and I am normal again. CB

When I get my chroinc headaches they last up to 3 days and then go away for a few days and then back again.  I enjoy the days where I don't have to deal with the pain. Those are the best:)

Hi CEB56,

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. I do want to let you know that anytime we have Migaine pain lasting longer than 72 hours without a four-hour, pain-free break while awake may be a condition called status Migrainous (SM) and needs medical attention. This may put us at an increased risk for stroke. Continue reading this article for more information: Status Migrainous - The Basics.

Let us know how you are feeling, ok?

Thank you.  I will read the information.  I have been headache free this week and I have an appointment with a neurologist on Oct 9.  Followed by an appointment with my internist for blood work and physical.  I will tell them how long this last headache lasted. Thanks again.

I'm a bit late to see how you made out at the neurologists office, and I apologize for that Embarassed. How are you feeling? What did the doctor say? If you get a chance let me know, ok?

I had my appointment today with the neurologist.  He looked at my CT scan from the ER.  He said I have a hole in my brain 4 mm (either wide or long?).  He is doing an MRI next Wednesday to make sure but it looks like at some point, probably at least 30 days prior to my ER visit, I had a small stroke. Also, I was slightly anemic and had a slightly high glucose level.

I will see my internist for bloodwork next week too. I will know more after all this is complete. I have had some small headaches but nothing major.

Thank you for your concern.

Well that certainly isn't the news we were hoping for. Is a hole in your brain differet from a stroke? I would try and get some definate answers when you see him again and a plan. How can the headaches not have anything to do with that hole?

Keep me posted, ok?

Thanks Nancy, I will discuss everything with him probably by Friday when he gets the results back.  The hole(or lacune) can be from a small stroke or there might be other issues. Anurysm, etc but he doesn't think that will be the case.  I will certainly discuss all options with him as soon as we know what it is. I wasn't that worried about it but as I read about it more, I am more concerned.  The good news is that I have not had any really bad headaches again. The MRI is Wednesday afternoon.  I will let you know as soon as I know anything.  I did ask him if it was possible that I had a stroke during the aura or the day I went to the ER.  He said no, that the hole (aka lacune) indicated that it had been at least 30 days prior. Soooooo I have lost my mind (literally!)

I am happy to report that my MRI showed no recent stroke.  The 4mm hole in my brain is very old and possibly something I was born with.  Everything else on the MRI showed no problems.  I am relieved that I didn't have a stroke, however, I will watch for migraines that last multiple days.  Thank you for your concern.
