This is not a cure but good with a bad headache. My grand mother was a healer by her nature, she studied natural ways to do with some discomfort as a child from a powerful women her mom...No women lib in that time but women were ruling, let me tell you, they did not show it but the same.
One day at her place I had a bad headache, I did not know yet that I had migraine, she told me what they were, it was in the women side of the family. That day she peeled and cut a large potato in slices about 1/2" put them on a cloth and applied the poultice on my forehead telling to wait for 1/2 hour to one until the potato are brown...I did believe in her she was my only soft grand-ma. The pain went in the tubercule, it was black, she told me that was because the pain was too much for a little one like me and I drank from her words.
It is only later in age that I realized that she did not have the magic power I attributed her but only the wisdom of her age and knowledge of many years taking care of people.
But the potato did work at least the coldness of the raw tubercule .... For me it was acure. She died I was still too young to understand she was a great source of knowledge. I could have learn so much from her. I still have memories of her not usual cures and her soft body and arms.
Nancy,
I'm with you about these Herbal products. I myself have tried a few. Now I take prescriptions, and they don't even always help me. So herbs don't always help either. The GelStat was a product that worked for me at first. Let's just say, "It took the edge off." It helped with the initial pounding. However, I went through it like water. I went through that stuff the second batch I bought like Ibufrofen, so it was like a tease. It would take the edge off, (sometimes) for about 5-10 minutes, then BAM! My migraine was back. So I stopped buying it. Man that was expensive! My mom bought it for me, because she says she don't care what it cost, she would help me. I have been taking some feverfew, ginger, and black cohosh. Alternating the black cohosh and feverfew. I don't like too much in my system. Well, I've been better, but I still get migraines. I'be been treating myself with 600-800 mg at a time for migraines, every 6 hours. But there is no herb out there, that I think is a "Cure." Some people just don't get it.
Take care Nancy!
Denise
Nancy,
Yes, I know. If non-migraneurs could only know one day of our on going pain, they would maybe, maybe understand what we go through huh? Well, I had a bad one this morning. I allow myself 2 cups of coffee in the morning. Well, I had a screening on my heart, checking for aortic & abdominal & carotid aneurysms, and so I couldn't have anything to eat or drink, but a sip of water. I had such a migraine, and the lights were bright in there, I thought I was going to pass out. I finally took a Xanax, and it helped. I had taken 600 mg Advil gel cap before I go there. What a day I've had. I feel better, just worn out. It's a rainy gloomy day here.
Take care Nancy. Happy Thanksgiving!
DENISE - I feel much safer taking my chances with herbs it's natural. Rather than risking my life filling my body with stupid drugs that make me feel like a walking zomby. I don't like feeling wasted, It's not good for my daughter to see either. All that the prescribed drugs do is make people wasted and ironically doesn't take the pain away at all. It's a wast of time and money. I guess if you'r a junky you might like that kind of thing. In my own oppinion the drugs from doctors is just them trying to make money off turning everyone into junkys. I'm good with the non narcotic herbs that are safe without life threatening side affects. I guess some people just don't get it.......
Not all the "natural" herbs are safe. I have had side effects from herbs. So, what herbs are you talking about???? Only response to this is........I don't walk around like a Zomie. I walk around when I can because of the drugs I can take. When you are desperate and in pain for over 16 years with migraines, and Headaches, and all that come with it, you try what you can. I don't take a lot of drugs, and I don't take it to get high, or feel out of it. For whoever wrote this comment, Do you have migraines? Do you get them daily? Well, I have been living with this disease, and with the help of God, I am getting through it. But, what I mean when I said "some people just don't get it," Those people who say, "Oh, take an Aspirin, or Oh, why do you get those, don't "they" know what causes them? Uh, no, there are theories and the pain and all the symptoms, nausea, dizziness, can't talk hardly, can't comprehend, can't stand light, can't stand to hardly walk, and your head feels like a freakin bowling ball, and you think you will die. That is a migraine that I have lived with almost daily, and now it's not as bad with my Midrin. But, I'm not out of it, (like a zombie) and I always feel safe because I have God!
Anonymous, when someone is in pain from a bad migraine or sickness which causes migraines, they will do what they need to do to get better and that does not mean they are junkies. I have a teenager that is suffering from migraines due to meningitis. The pain was constant for 4 months straight. Would you want to see your daughter in pain? It breaks my heart to see mine like that.
It is funny what people will refer to as a cure when it is really just an aid to ease pain. I have tried many alternative products to ease the pain to a point of toleration but I would never consider it a cure.
For example, the is a powdered magnesium supplement that you can mix in warm water like a tea. Sometimes it makes a huge difference in my pain levels. Sometimes it does nothing.
Feverfew helps occasionally as well. My first "remedy" is always a glass of water since often headaches are cause by dehydration.
While I am usually willing to try most things (within reason) to see if they may help, I know I will never find an actual "cure" for my migraines.
Well, at least they do not want any money... Henna does amazing job at "chilling" your head, it is used in many cultures to bring fever down, and does work. So maybe some temporary relief, but I can't imagine washing it out, that would bring the migraine back fo sure.
And apples, I eat apples, maybe it is MOH since I eat so many
first off u need to finish what u were saying! this is what needs to b fixed: "I came across this article: Home Remedies for Headache Treatment - Must Try It. This is in the online news magazine American Chronicle. What's interesting is it talks about "curing" headaches with apples and henna. Hang on and I'..." i wanted to know how to cure a migraine! i get them everyday! what is henna? and how does putting vinegar on ur head help! and which kind of vinegar! im a swore believer in natural things please fill in the blanks ty,zanie
That's just it - there is no "cure" for Migraine disease, a genetic neurologic condition. It is a condition that can be managed with trigger identification and management, lifestyle changes, and for many people, daily medication.
We have a trigger page that may be helpful which you can click HERE.
Henna, will not work to "cure" anything that I know of!
When you're in pain with a migraine you'll do or try almost anything.
I've heard of people committing suicide because of migraines. I don't think they wanted to die. I think they just wanted for the pain to go away.
I use BC or Goody powders frequently. I also use benedryl to help me get to sleep.
I've tried just about everything. Pain medicines like Demerol don't really help. They just make you not care that you hurt & give you a hangover. When I go to the Emergency Department I prefer Toradol with Phenergan; non-narcodic & no drug hangover. Just the usual headache hangover. The narcodics don't hit the right pain recepters.
Also taking too much of any drug can cause rebound headaches. Then you have created a vicious cycle. The only way to break it now is to stop taking the drugs & just ride out the headache.
Remember: What works "great" for one person won't help you at all.
I've always noticed that if I eat a Granny Smith apple when I have a migraine first coming on it does make me feel better for some reason but I don't think of it as a cure by any means. If it is one I wake up with one the only thing that will help is to take a Midrin and head back to bed in a very dark room with an ice pack. I'm willing to try anything to get rid of the excruciating pain that comes with the migraines.
I went to Dr once who told me totake a 500 mg of a Vitamin C tablet as soon as you feel a migraine come on. I tried it and sometimes it worked. If I have had a migraine for a while I eat a whole can of chunk light packed tuna im water and sometimes it helps me to feel better.
I also have a migrastik that I got at the health food store, it has peppermint and lavendar oils in it and I rub it on my temples when I get a migraine, it doesnt take the migraine away but it helps me to feel a little bit better.
Uh - I eat apples with salt on them all the time and guess what - still get migraines!!!!
And no thank you - I do not wish to rub vinager all over my head and smell like a salad.
Who comes up with this stuff????
