Pozen's New Migraine Treatment Slowly Advances With Second Approvable Letter

WASHINGTON, DC August 4th, 2007 - You would think combining two drugs many Migrainuers use on a daily basis would make for a fast track through the Food and Drug Administration. Wouldn't you? Then you would be wrong. But is that really a bad thing?

The FDA issues its second Approvable letter for a new Migraine drug underdevelopment called TreximaTM a combination drug containing sumatriptan/naproxen sodium. Which many would agree sounds like a good idea. We say that because millions of Migraineurs often with their doctor's knowledge (many without) augment their Migraine management with an OTC for inflammation before, during or after taking an expensive triptan drug. Anecdotally speaking this seams to be an effective way to better manage a Migraine. Having said that, GlaxoSmithKline and Pozen are working together to create a compounded drug called TreximaTM using the triptan Imetrex® and the over the counter pain reliever Aleve®. But the road there has been a bumpy one...
