FDA Warns Use of Codeine May Lead To
Life-Threatening Side Effects In Nursing Babies


WASHINGTON, DC August 17th, 2007 - Today the Food and Drug Administration issued an official warning regarding the use of codeine medications by some breastfeeding mothers, the report states it may lead to life-threatening side effects in nursing babies. As codeine is a common ingredient in many medications used in the treatment Migraine, we want to give a special highlight of this FDA advisory to nursing Migraineur mothers and Migraineur mothers to be for obvious reasons.

Even if you do not use codeine in you Migraine care, you might want to read the warning below in full. Many people have told us they do not use codeine, they use "Imetrex®, Maxalt® meltabs, and Fiorinal®" but ‘no' codeine of course. Unfortunately Fiorinal, a popular mild Migraine treatment is compounded with codeine! Ah ha! For those of you who do not know it, but take any of the following- Fiorinal®, Idenal®, Lenoltec®, and the ever popular Tylenol with any number following (1,2,3, & 4) buyer beware, all contain codeine. Also those prescription or Schedule V medications you might sign for at the pharmacy, those anti-tussives cough syrups contain codeine as well.
