Hello everyone!

By Angieann Friday, December 28, 2007

Hi everyone. I've read this forum now for some time, and finally decided to join. I'm 35 and have been suffering relentlessly with migraines now for about 2 years. My family doctor is in the process of referring me to the UNC Chapel Hill headache clinic. If anyone here has had an experience with that facility I would love to hear it. I have been to two neurologists and just feel like migraines are pretty low on their list of priorities.

So far, I've tried Topamax and Depakote. The Topamax made me dumb at a therapeutic level, and the Depakote made me CRAZY, I sobbed and just felt crappy in general with it. My doctor yesterday put me on Lyrica for fibromyalgia, and I'm hoping by some miraculous chance that it may help the migraines, while I am waiting for the referral appointment.

My GP also mentioned Cymbalta, anyone with experiences with that would be great too.

The triptans no longer control the migraines as an abortive. I have to take Demerol and the triptan to get relief when the headache is really bad. I try to juggle it so I'm not taking a lot of Demerol, but when the migraine hits, what else can you do?? I'm praying for some preventive therapy to work when I get to the headache clinic!!

I'm on Lyrica as well, as a migraine preventative, and hoping to benifit the FMS.  Have not been on it long enough to say whether it works for either, but so far not too many side effects.
