In '75, I went to my scheduled doctors appt.  I had one of my bad headaches.  The doctor saw I had a typical Migraine Headache!  At that point I would get them aabout every 3 weeks and he suggested stopping coffee.  Honestly that took 10 years off and on! I am still without it now!  I tried the Ergostat and the other new ones that stop it prior to.  They did not work for me.  At present, I get them about every 9 months.  I go to the doctor or the ER for treatment.  Demeral with Phenergan work the best although I don't like the forgetfulness I have later on. The hot needle in the right eye, photophobia, vomiting etc.  I went into the ER knowing that I had another Migraine, with pressure and pain to the neck as well 3 months ago.  The ER doctor said he hasn't heard of a 57 year old woman with a migraine and 'snowed' with meds. He and did all sorts of CT tests.  The next day I had a stat MRI and needed to wait to see my doctor. The ER doctor told me I had a Brain Tumor! Wacko   The next week, my doctor showed me the MRI and said it was negative! Grin   Still I began getting these hanging headaches 3 months later, no need for Tylenol it just hangs accross the eyes.  Frankly I am fearful to even go to the doctor now because of that ER doctor. Now I must research this further.  I'm hopping it is stress or something easy.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Clearly, that ER doctor is not the brightest bulb in that department Cheesy. I'm not making light of your experience, you must have been terrified. I wouldn't let an incompentant doctor prevent you from getting good health care.

Unfortunately, Migraine disease can occur at any age. Are you having pain every day? Do you get any breaks at all? If your head pain goes on longer than 72 hours without four-hour, pain-free break while awake, this could be a condition called Status Migrainous and needs medical attention. Status Migrainous - The Basics.  This puts us at an increased risk for stroke. The cycle can be broken with IV infusion, which I have had done on numerous occasions. IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines  Feel free to print out this material and take it to your doctor.

Something to be careful of is Medication Overuse Headache, MOH. This happens when we take certain prescription and/or OTC medications more than 2 to 3 days a week. The only way to stop MOH, is to stop taking the offending medication cold turkey. Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires.
