surrendering to the enemy

By sascha Sunday, June 24, 2007

since friday i've had 3 migraines.  my enemy and tyrant: the basilar migraine.  it starts with visual disturbances...usually in just one eye.  this weekend it was my left.  silvery/white tiny dots in the shape of a short line.  the line gets longer and turns into a small 'v' or an 'L'...like a check mark.  it gets longer and larger until i lose any and all focus ability in that side of my vision.  even when i close my eyes i can't escape the visual disturbances.  i've learned to keep calm when they come on because anxiety and panic seem to increase my discomfort. i have to surrender to my enemy.  it's demeaning. it reminds me of the fragility of life and that my perspective of it is so different than what my family and friends experience.  i just want to live without this blinking silver shadow looming somewhere just above and behind me...waiting to come in and take over my life when i'm tired, stressed, or premenstrual.  just don't want to die like this...and it sure doesn't feel like living when i'm having a migraine.

Hi Sascha, I have had them all my life. I have lived with chronic migraines daily for the last 6 years. I know many times I wanted to to die. Please don't think about surrendering. Life is too prescious to give it a chance to take over. We must move on without letting it be in charge. I know it is very difficult, but this is the first step to recovery. Take a hug and take care, BZ
