My neurologist has added Neurontin to my bouquet of medications, based on my development of radiculopathy. I will be having an EMG on my lower back and leg next week.  Happily, I am feeling and resting much more comfortably already!  When I remember not to over-do, I have a bit more energy, a minor miracle. Not looking forward to the EMG next week, but feel compelled to cooperate. One of Neurontin's listed side effects is weight gain - have any of you had experience with this medication? Thanks!

I tried neurontin quite a while ago but don't remember why I stopped taking it.

Good luck with it, I hope it works for you.

Thanks, Nancy! Well, I'll let you know how it works out for me. Time will tell!  Hope you're having a good day.  Thanks again! Lynne

Hey!

I've been on Neurontin for the last few months.  I currently take 300mg 3X a day. When I began, I took 100 mg 3x a day.  I am seeing a reduction in migraines--down from 3 a week to 2.  Mostly it has made me tired.  I haven't noticed any weight gain.  I have been trying to eat healthier the last few months and have begun doing a little exercise--since both impact my health. Good luck!!

Hi Krista,

Thanks so much for your comment - yes, I've been trying to be very careful with my diet, and adding as much exercise as possible as well. The nice weather has made this a lot easier! I'm continuing to work on weight loss to reduce strain on my back and for overall wellness as I get older.  Since I'm taking my dose at night, I notice my sleepiness in the morning, but am also finding a reduction in the number of migraines, also sometimes in their severity.  How do you combat the sleepiness of day time doses?

Thanks,

Lynne

I took neurontin for over a year and when I got up to 2400 mgs. my migraines were gone. I did gain weight and that is why I stopped it.  I couldn't get enough sweets.  But it definitely helped.  I remember is also made me sleepy. Good Luck....

Hi Pat,

Thanks so much for your comment!  On only 600 mg per night, I've already noticed I'm craving sweets much more than before.  I'm trying to be extremely conscious that this is being caused by the medication and not have anything in the house that would tempt me, or my diabetic husband.  I was feeling groggy in the morning, but started taking my evening medications with dinner, and this went away.

I'm sure on higher doses it would be much more difficult - about five years ago when I was on Depakote I gained a lot of weight, and it didn't help my migraines, so I was doubly frustrated.  After that, on Topomax, and now on Zonegran, I've lost weight.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you taking now, and has it stopped your migraines?

Thanks,

Lynne
