I remember the days of agony my Mom went through with her migraines. They began in her late 40's and continued until just before she "graduated" *died...@ 77 years of age. My migraines began after my pregnancy, in my early 30's...and continue to this day...18 years later. My daughter first experienced abdominal migraines around the age of 8. Her "aura" migraines began around the age of 11.
We have recently discontinued Topamax due to the side-effects...which for us...far exceeded the benefits. My daughter and I, initially, experienced wonderful relief from the migraines, however after a few weeks the migraines began to break-through again.
We take zomig...and are on different pain-killers. However, even with these medications...my daughter is on her 10th day....of a string of migraines....i'm on day 5. We may go for a week without a migraine...and then BAM....7 days straight. At times, they seem to be hormonally linked...but now they seem to have no rhyme or reason.
So, we are looking into a neurologist that deals with management of chronic pain....
At times....the quality of our lives is a bit down. Sunglasses on overcast days...calling the drug-store because your prescription has run out...before the insurance will co-pay...puking....walking around like zombies from the pain...lack of concentration....low motivation. BUT....We always try to remember....that things could be so much worse.
We'd just like to find way be able to stop the consistant and frustrating disruption these migraines bring to our lives. (and get rid of this stinking pain too...i mean really...you all know how it hurts to watch your child dissolve into a little ball of tears...)
I hope this makes sense
....I feel like i'm rambling a bit....*migraine...lol. Blessings to you all...may we all be able to find peace....even in the midst of our personal storms.....

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection!
I hear you! Migraine disease goes back several generations in my family too. Now, two of our granddaughters have Migaines.
The good news is that there's a great deal more we can do than in previous generations, and I'm convinced it will be even better for our children and grandchildren.
One thing I'd say to you is that it's just as important, if not more important, to find a doctor who really knows how to treat Migraines. You might want to consider looking for someone who's a Migraine specialist instead of a pain management specialist. We have a directory of Patient Recommended Specialists that you can take a look at to help with this.
Thank you for creating a SharePost. SharePosts are a form of blogging, and there are many things you can do with them. You can share an experience, suggest something that's helped you, use SharePosts as a Migraine and headache journal, and many other things.
We also have a discussion forum that you may want to check out. Especially if you have questions or are looking for information, you may find the interaction on the forum to be quite helpful.
