Menopause Migraines

By Rosemary Sunday, November 11, 2012

I have been having Violent migraines since i started the beginning of going through the Menopause. Sickness all day and depression, different aura symptoms too. I have however discovered that if i stop eating chocolate the headaches stop. I have always been able to eat what i want whithout it affecting my head, so why now?. The healthier i eat cutting out too much junk it makes me feel better. I have not had a period for 9 months and also since my last Migraine 3 weeks ago my sweats have stopped. Could it be i am getting to the end stage of menopause?. Im 48 but have heard menopause symptoms can go away then come back, is this true?. Advice please?.

Serious headache paralyzed me for 3 days?

Hi Rosemary,

I can commiserate. I've had migraines in some form since childhood, but when I reached my mid forties and entered peri-menopause, they got much worse, lasting much longer and becoming chronic. I also had to "clean up" my diet and several foods, including chocolate, became triggers for me, that had not been before. Such a pain!

On my profile page I've written about what has helped me reduce the number and severity of my migraines. Working in partnership with very good migraine specialists has been essential, but the ups and downs of peri-menopause continue to be a challenge for me every day.

All the best,

Melanie
